Omicron variant a wake-up call for industrialized nations

AUBURN, Ala. — A new variant of SARS-CoV-2 was first isolated and characterized from South Africa back in November. This “variant of concern” is designated Omicron by the World Health Organization for the 15th letter of the Greek alphabet.
