GREELEY, Colo. — Pilgrim's Pride Corp., plans to eliminate all antibiotics from one-quarter of its chicken production by 2019.
Pilgrim's, the second-largest U.S. poultry processor, announced the move April 20. This would push the company's antibiotic chicken total up from about 5 percent currently.
Pilgrim's Pride joins other poultry processors, including Tyson Foods and Perdue, which have announced plans to eliminate antibiotics from their chickens.
The actions by chicken processors follows announcements by customers such as McDonald's which has said it will eliminate chicken treated with antibiotics from its supply chain.
