WASHINGTON -- The United Egg Producers and the Humane Society of the United States have reached a "historic agreement" to jointly seek federal legislation that would transform the egg industry from conventional cage egg production to enriched colony cage housing.
UEP Chairman Bob Krouse and HSUS President and CEO Wayne Pacelle made the joint announcement July 7 in Washington, D.C.
The agreement calls for the two groups to seek federal legislation that would require conventional cages to be replaced through a phase-in period with new enriched housing. . .
