Mexico suspends egg import tariffs as prices rise

MEXICO CITY — Mexico is suspending tariffs on egg imports to counter a shortage and sudden price increase that has followed an outbreak of the bird flu virus.

The United States is among the countries that have began exporting eggs to Mexico.

The shortage of eggs began with the June detection of bird flu in the western state of Michoacan, which produces roughly half of Mexico's eggs.
