Nebraska is 16th state hit by avian influenza

WASHINGTON — The outbreak of a Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza strain has now reached into Nebraska, making it the 16th state to be affected by the virus.

USDA's Animal & Plant Inspection Service has confirmed H5N2 HPAI in a 1.7 million flock  of commercial layers in Dixon County, Neb. — the first in that state.

Nebraska state officials have quarantined the premises and the birds will be depopulated.

The Nebraska flock is situated within the Central flyway used by migrating birds on their flights to and from their breeding areas. . .
