WASHINGTON — The National Chicken Council has expressed "great concerns" over the removal of lean meat as a component of a healthy eating pattern.
NCC was responding to the 2015 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee (DGAC) action on Dec. 15, when it approved removal of lean meat from proposed healthy diet recommendations.
The dietary guidelines are issued jointly and updated every five years by USDA and the Department of Health & Human Services.
Food groups have charged that the change in lean meat status was made at the last minute during a closed-door meeting.
