N.C. chicken and meat processing plant closes

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —  More than 100 workers will lose their jobs in Monroe, N.C., as Gold Signature Foods shuts down its food processing plant, according to a notice filed May 11 with the N.C. Department of Commerce.

Filed according to the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification, or WARN, Act, the notice lists 116 jobs expected to be eliminated by the closure. The plant is owned by Brooks Food Group, headquartered in Bedford, Va., outside Roanoke, where the company has its other plant.
