SINGAPORE — At the end of September, Cargill announced its multi-million-dollar investment to expand its poultry operation across Asia over the next two years as the global demand for high-quality poultry products has increased.
The investment encompasses capacity and efficiency enhancements across Cargill’s entire poultry network in Thailand and the Philippines and will help strengthen supply chain resilience, enhance food safety, quality and innovation for its foodservice and retail customers globally, Cargill said in the announcement.
An important feature of this investment is implementation of advanced technologies to optimize production processes and costs, besides increasing the production capacity in Thailand. Additionally, the investment will include a new automated cooked chicken production line at the processing plant in Saraburi, which is expected to be completed in 2028.
During the next two years, the company will be making significant technological upgrades, incorporating state-of-the-art machinery and integrating Artificial Intelligence into data processing to drive faster, more accurate decision-making, Cargill noted.
Furthermore, these technological advancements will elevate the efficacy of the company’s rigorous food quality and safety management systems, the company added.
“Demand for high-quality protein continues to grow across global markets, and customers are looking for reliable innovation partners who can help them scale with confidence,” Watcharapon Prasopkiatpoka, vice president and managing director, Poultry APAC at Cargill, said. “This investment strengthens our ability to deliver poultry products with the quality and consistency our customers need. By investing in infrastructure, technology, and people, we are serving the growing demand from customers for high-quality protein, while creating long-term economic value for farmers, businesses, suppliers, and local communities.”
The company currently exports cooked poultry products from Thailand, its strategic poultry export hub to Japan, Europe, Asia, and North America, Cargill noted. Now, with this expansion, it’s expected that Cargill’s total cooked volume will increase to approximately 160,000 metric tons, creating a total of THB 25 billion in export value in Thailand annually and more than 300 jobs for the community.
The company is also building a new 300,000 metric ton grain silo in Thailand, which is expected to be completed in early 2027. The facility will enhance the raw material storage capability and provide greater flexibility in grain procurement throughout the year, while creating additional income opportunities for local farmers beyond the traditional harvest season, Cargill stated.
In addition to the advancements in Thailand, Cargill’s investment in the Philippines will include the construction of a new feed mill with a production capacity of 190,000 metric tons annually, expected to be completed by late 2027.
This plant will generate more than 100 jobs and help strengthen the poultry supply chain and improve feed availability, efficiency and reliability across the company’s Philippines operations, Cargill noted.
Another component of Cargill’s expansion in the Philippines is the growth of its networks of hatcheries, breeder, and broiler farms to improve supply and cost efficiencies to better serve its consumers of its “Tip-Top” retail brand.
