House passes farm bill as Senate takes up its version

GAINESVILLE, Ga. — The U.S. House of Representatives, in a 213-211 vote on June 22, narrowly passed the chamber's Republican-backed 2018 farm bill.

The bill would toughen work requirements for people receiving food stamps and extend subsidies for farmers and government-backed crop insurers.

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue issued the following statement after the House of Representatives passed their version of the 2018 Farm Bill:

"I applaud Chairman (Michael, R-Texas) Conaway and the House Agriculture Committee for their diligence and hard work in passing. . .
