And the winner of Purina Poultry’s final round of Miss Flock-Tober pageant is.. a duck! Mindie Dittemore’s of Bellevue, Mich., Rouen duck named Baby Girl first won the title of Miss Performance in the 2017 pageant, went on to win the final round on Oct. 5 and earned the title of Miss Flock-Tober 2017.

Baby Girl is the first duck to win the national contest. In the round of Miss Performance, she won with the help of Mindie’s winning entry which stated that the duck produces an egg a day and is very maternal with her eggs that hatch. She also provides her family with “total cuteness”.

When Mindie heard her duck was the grand winner, she was thrilled. “This contest has really brought attention to how ducks can be great backyard companions and that is what I was hoping for.” Mindie said. She added that winning the entire contest was icing on the cake.

More than 1,000 other birds including chickens, ducks and turkeys competed in the contest. There were four rounds before the final round. In the first four rounds, Miss Fancy Feathers, Miss Performance, Miss Helpful and Miss Congeniality were named. Miss Congeniality 2017 is Morgan Hay’s of Bastrop, Texas hen named Moon. All the other birds won a Flock-Tober fun box and the Grand Winner won a year’s supply of Purina feed.
