WASHINGTON — The Environmental Protection Agency has given final approval for a fuel blend containing 15 percent ethanol, known as E15, to be sold at gasoline stations across the country. Ethanol is a renewable fuel that can be mixed with gasoline.
Ethanol has been blended into gasoline for more than 30 years, but has been limited by law to 10 percent by volume for use in gasoline-fueled vehicles.
"Today, the last significant federal hurdle has been cleared to allow consumers to buy fuel containing up to 15 percent ethanol," said Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack in a June 15 statement. . .
