GAINESVILLE, Ga. — The egg industry has suffered greatly this year due to avian influenza outbreaks and consumers’ pockets can feel some of the impact.
According to Brian Moscogiuri of Urner Barry, the disease has affected 35 million out of 304 million egg-laying hens in the Midwest.
Egg prices have gradually increased during the year due to the bird flu. The market for eggs is volatile and any shift in demand is magnified due to the loss of production, Moscoguri said.
