NORTH MANCHESTER, Ind. — Midwest Poultry Services L.P. announces that it has proactively and voluntarily recalled 1,589,577 dozen white shell eggs and brown cage free shell eggs due to their potential contamination with Salmonella Enteritidis.
The eggs were distributed and produced from the company’s farms in Texas between June 6, 2026, and July 3, 2026, with sell by dates between July 20, 2026, and Aug. 17, 2026. Only products with the codes P-1950 or 0840962 and a Julian date between 157 and 184 on the carton’s side are subject to this recall.
Among the brands include Country Morning, Brookshire’s Kroger, Simple Truth and Sunups.
The recalled eggs were shipped to retail and foodservice customers in Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana. They were also available to consumers in Kroger grocery stores Texas and Louisiana; Brookshire’s in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico and Mississippi; as well as some smaller retail stores.
“As a precautionary measure, we have proactively recalled shell eggs produced on our farms in Texas due to possible contamination with Salmonella Enteritidis (SE),” Midwest Poultry Services said in a statement. “When we learned of a possible issue with egg safety, we began diverting eggs to a breaking plant where they would be pasteurized to kill any foodborne pathogens. We also began a robust internal investigation and initiated testing protocols to identify potential sources of SE.”
“Producing safe, quality food for those who eat our eggs is our highest priority, and this voluntary investigation and recall demonstrates that commitment,” the company added.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration in an announcement added that MPS identified this issue on its Texas farms through root cause analysis and proactive monitoring and is currently not distributing fresh shell eggs produced at its Texas locations. Also, additional MPS products are not a part of this specific recall.
The company also notes that it is not aware of any specific illnesses reported because of this recall.
