GAINESVILLE, Ga. — The University of North Georgia and Mississippi State University recently announced a partnership to give poultry science students more opportunities. The partnership will allow UNG students to transition directly from its associate degree in agriculture-poultry science to MSU’s bachelor’s degree in poultry science.
Students must be accepted through MSU’S regular application process for a transfer, the university mentioned in a release. This agreement guarantees that all of a student’s credits will easily transfer from school to school, solving the problem of lost credits that can delay graduation and increase student expenses.
“We welcome the opportunity for our students to build on their excellent preparation in our poultry science program at one of the nation’s top research universities,” UNG Provost Chaudron Gille said. “We are grateful to Mississippi State for offering another chance for our students to build momentum as they approach their careers.”
“Mississippi State is a national leader in poultry science education and research and one of the most transfer-friendly universities in the country,” Mark E. Keenum, Mississippi State president, said. “This 2+2 agreement with The University of North Georgia builds on these strengths and is a true win-win for our institutions and students.”
This is MSU’s first agreement of this type with an out-of-state university, and it opens numerous doors for UNG students.
“It gives our students an opportunity to see a different part of the poultry world, outside of our state,” Dr. Linda Purvis, UNG associate professor of biology and director of poultry science, said. “I believe our students will have an amazing opportunity to continue their education at a university that focuses on students and poultry science. This gives our students more options and makes them more competitive in the long term for whatever they want to do career-wise.”
