Two new cases of HPAI detected in Neb. backyard flocks

LINCOLN, Neb. — The Nebraska Department of Agriculture, in conjunction with the USDA’s Animal Plant Health Inspection Service has detected two cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza in poultry flocks in Nebraska. These cases represent the fourth and fifth cases of HPAI in Nebraska poultry in 2024.

Case 4 was detected in a small backyard chicken flock in Sarpy County. Case 5 was detected in a large backyard mixed flock in Lancaster County.

Cases of HPAI in Nebraska in 2024 include: Gage County, February 2024; Nemaha County, December 2024; Dodge County, December 2024; Sarpy County, December 2024; and Lancaster County. . .
