GAINESVILLE, Ga. — The highly pathogenic avian influenza strain H5N8 is continuing to attack poultry throughout Europe and has also reached into Asia and parts of the Middle East
The outbreak, which began in Russia in June, has swept across the European continent affecting poultry in 14 countries.
The virus has mainly affected waterfowl, but also birds of prey that feed on the carcasses, introducing the virus into local bird populations.
