Campylobacter research reveals potential for vaccine

TUCKER, Ga. — The U.S. Poultry & Egg Association  and the USPOULTRY Foundation have announced the completion of a funded research project at the USDA Richard B. Russell Agricultural Research Center, Athens, Ga., that identified a potential vaccine for campylobacter.

The research, Development of Campylobacter jejuni Proteins as in ovo Vaccines for Broiler Chickens, was conducted by Hung-Yueh Yeh, Kelli Hiett, J. Eric Line and Bruce Seal.

No vaccines are currently available to prevent campylobacter colonization of poultry. In this research project, researchers purified proteins from campylobacter and tested them for their potential use as vaccines.
