ALAMEDA, Calif. — Recently, Alveo Technologies announced that it would be expanding its partnership with Royal GD, one of the world’s leading veterinary diagnostic companies. The agreement builds on three years of collaboration between the two companies and 18 months of commercial deployment of their jointly developed, on-farm avian influenza test, Alveo Technologies said in a statement.
With this new agreement, Royal GD will provide new research and development resources to accelerate the development of molecular tests on the Alveo platform to detect pathogens in swine and cattle, and to further grow its poultry portfolio.
The expansion of this partnership marks the next step in improving the accessibility of rapid molecular diagnostics for livestock producers and veterinarians. In addition to avian influenza testing, new applications for respiratory diseases and other pathogens across multiple animal species are being developed, enabling earlier detection, faster decision-making, and more effective disease prevention and control, Alveo noted.
Concurrently, Alveo is expanding its global network to present customers with local expertise, quicker support, and easier access to the Alveo Sense platform.
“Rapid and reliable diagnostics are essential in the fight against avian influenza,” Gerhard de Ruiter, Royal GD managing director, said in the announcement. “With Alveo Sense, we bring laboratory-quality molecular testing directly to the poultry house, enabling earlier detection and faster decision-making. As a leading animal health organization, Royal GD is committed to supporting disease surveillance, outbreak management, and flock health. This innovation strengthens our ability to deliver on that mission, both nationally and internationally.”
“Partnerships are fundamental to Alveo’s mission, enabling us to accelerate meaningful change in markets where deep expertise is required,” Shaun Holt, Alveo Technologies CEO, said. “Over the last three years, we’ve seen firsthand the deep commitment Royal GD has to developing tools that directly improve the wellbeing of animals. Their decision to invest additional R&D resources reflects what we built together over the last three years. Expanding into bovine and swine health together is the natural next step for a platform built to serve farmers across species with a partner who exists to serve them.”
The organizations expect to expand their offering by 2027, Alveo added.
In addition to growing its partnership with Royal GD, earlier in September, Alveo announced that it would be entering into a new partnership with Alliance Global.
This new distribution agreement with AGBL will bring the Alveo Sense Poultry avian influenza test to farmers, integrators and public health officials across Africa, Central Asia and a portion of the Eastern Mediterranean at a time when the threat of bird flu has never been more urgent, Alveo said in a statement.
Bird flu is spreading at an alarming rate. After a slow summer domestically, fall bird migration is causing detections to rise again. Internationally, the virus reached Australia for the first time in this entire outbreak and has remained a constant issue everywhere else.
For the agricultural and public health communities in these regions, rapid on-site testing is a critical line of defense to safeguard businesses, protect flocks, and reduce the risk of transmission to workers, Alveo noted.
“AGBL’s reach across Africa, Central Asia, and the Eastern Mediterranean Region gives us a direct path to farmers, integrators, and health officials who need reliable avian influenza testing where outbreaks are affecting poultry producers,” Scott Thomas, Alveo chief commercial officer, said. “This agreement extends the availability of Alveo Sense Poultry to communities that depend on healthy flocks for their livelihoods and food security.”
This partnership unites Alveo’s travel-sized diagnostic technology with AGBL’s expansive network and operational expertise. Together, the companies are addressing vulnerabilities in the food supply chain and delivering rapid, accurate and scalable testing solutions to support compliance, quality control and public health protection, Alveo noted.
“Farmers, public health and other officials in these regions need a way to rapidly and accurately determine whether flocks are infected with avian influenza so they can take fast action to protect other animals,” Nassim Marie Hambouz, AGBL’s vice president of operations, said. “We’re looking forward to providing people in these regions with access to Alveo’s revolutionary diagnostic.”
With this expansive, new AGBL agreement, the Alveo Sense Poultry is now available globally, reflecting the company’s continued momentum in building a regional commercial network for point of need avian influenza testing, Alveo added.
