A new bipartisan bill introduced to protect Georgia growers from bird flu

GAINESVILLE, Ga. — U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.) introduced a bipartisan bill on Feb. 25 aimed at protecting poultry growers from the highly pathogenic avian influenza that is continuing to wreak havoc on the nation’s poultry flocks.

The bill, “Healthy Poultry Assistance and Indemnification Act of 2025” (HPAI ACT) aims to expand producer support during HPAI outbreaks. The bill was also recently introduced by U.S. Sens. Chris Coons (D-Del.) and Roger Wicker (R-Miss.).

“Georgia farmers work tirelessly to feed the nation and the world,” Ossoff said in a statement. “They need strong protections. . .
