University of Minnesota veterinary lab conducts crucial HPAI testing

ST. PAUL, Minn. — Diagnostic laboratories around the nation have not just been working, but working together to test, monitor, and assist in eradicating the ongoing outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza that began in 2022.

The University of Minnesota’s Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (VDL) recently reported that since July 2023 it has conducted more than 115,000 HPAI tests, which notes its key role for animal production in its state and the Midwest region. This number of tests includes more than 74,000 ELISA tests, and over 41,000 PCR tests.
