UEP and HSUS end ties seeking egg legislation

ALPHARETTA, Ga. — The United Egg Producers and the Humane Society of the United States have agreed to end all formal cooperative efforts which had been aimed at passage of federal legislation for the egg industry.

The two previously opposing organizations came together in July 2011 to seek legislation which would provide for a uniform standard for the housing and treatment of egg-laying hens.

Several efforts were made to attach the legislation — known as the Egg Products Inspection Act Amendment — to Farm Bill legislation, but without success. President Barack Obama signed the recently passed Farm Bill legislation into law on. . .
