SPRINGDALE, Ark. — Tyson Foods has announced that as of Oct. 1, 2014, it has discontinued the use of antibiotics in its hatcheries.
The company reported that its veterinarians, researchers and hatchery managers successfully developed and tested new protocols that would enable it to end the antibiotic use.
"Since the antibiotic typically used in hatcheries is important to human health, this is a significant first step toward our goal of reducing the use of antibiotics that are also used in human medicine," the company said.
On Tyson farms where chickens are raised, the company said it sometimes uses Food & Drug. . .
