Suspected avian cholera claims 2,000 migrating snow geese

MUD LAKE, Idaho — Idaho wildlife officials say 2,000 migrating snow geese have died in eastern Idaho, likely from avian choler, a disease that can cause birds to die in midflight and drop out of the sky.

The Idaho Department of Fish and Game staff and volunteers collected the dead birds at the Mud Lake Wildlife Management Area near Terreton and the Market Lake Wildlife Management Area near Roberts.

A smaller number of dead snow geese were reported at the Camas National Wildlife Refuge near Dubois.

The carcasses were collected and will be incinerated so that other predatory and scavenger. . .
