New FMCSA rule will affect poultry industry

GAINESVILLE, Ga. — In December, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) issued a rule mandating that all trucking companies with $25 million or more in sales must use electronic logging devices (ELD) by the end of the year.

ELDs automatically record driving time and monitor engine hours, vehicle movement, miles driven and location information.

Trucking companies with less than $25 million in sales will have until Dec. 2017 to make the transition from paper logging their hours-of-service (HOS) method to a system using (ELDs).
