ST. PAUL, Minn. — Since 2024 avian metapneumovirus (aMPV) has taken a toll on the nation’s poultry industry, with turkey producers experiencing noted losses.
In a recent economic impact study, commissioned by the Minnesota Turkey Growers Association and the Minnesota Corn Growers Association, it shows the state, since last year, has lost 2,201,903 turkeys to the virus. Minnesota is the top turkey producing state but has been fighting against aMPV, as well as the continuing outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza.
