CHICAGO — More than a year in the making, the American Egg Board announces a unique and innovative sustainability reporting tool that will enhance how U.S. egg producers can relay their sustainable farming initiatives.

The “Incredibly Sustainable” tool was announced by AEB at this year’s recent Sustainable Ag Summit in Anaheim, Calif., and will be available through the AEB’s Incredible Farmer resource hub. The reporting tool will incorporate such aspects as a greenhouse gas calculator, a streamlined survey, and customizable impact reports where producers can share their sustainable practices with consumers, the board noted in its announcement.

“Incredibly Sustainable is a first-of-its-kind innovation for the egg industry,” Emily Metz, AEB president and CEO, said. “The tool gives egg farmers a streamlined way to communicate their sustainability practices and demonstrate leadership in a changing marketplace. Just as importantly, it shows customers that America’s egg farmers are committed to providing the information they need most.”

To provide accuracy, the tool was designed through comprehensive rounds of collaboration between egg producers and retail and using the feedback to develop the refined pilot testing.

“Designed for flexibility, the tool can be used by anyone within an egg producer’s organization, most often a sustainability director or an operations manager,” AEB added in its release. “Dedicated personnel at the AEB are available to provide support as needed in addition to improving accuracy, Incredibly Sustainable was built to amplify the reporting process for farmers. By making sustainability requests easier and more consistent to handle across the industry, the tool helps ease the reporting burden while also opening the door to stronger customer relationships and future business opportunities.”

AEB adds that the greenhouse gas calculator, and additional reporting, complements efforts such as the U.S. Roundtable for Sustainable Poultry & Eggs Sustainability Framework (US-RSPE).

“Incredibly Sustainable helps position the egg industry as a proactive leader in transparency,” Dr. Mickey Rubin, AEB’s vice president of research, said. “By standardizing how sustainability data is collected and shared, the AEB is enabling producers to not only meet requests more efficiently but also demonstrate accountability in a way that builds confidence with retailers, restaurants, and food manufacturers.”
