House members seek ban on Chinese chicken in school lunches

WASHINGTON — Fourteen members of the House of Representatives are urging their fellow legislators to ensure that Chinese-processed chicken is not included in school lunch and other nutrition programs because of China's food safety record.

A recent USDA Food Safety & Inspection Service decision would allow China to process chicken raised in the U.S., as well as Canada and Chile, and then export the product to the U.S.

The 14 representatives, in a letter to House and Senate committees on appropriates and agriculture subcommittees, stated:

"Consider the impact of China's weak enforcement of food safety and. . .
