Foster Farms temporarily closes plant

LIVINGSTON, Calif. - Foster Farms, on Jan. 12, voluntarily and temporarily put operations at its Livingston, Calif., fresh chicken production facility on hold to further expand its USDA-approved safe manufacturing procedures and monitoring systems.

Livingston maintenance employees will remain on the job; the remainder of plant employees will be called back when the plant resumes full operations.

USDA's Food Safety & Inspection Service suspended operations at the Livingston plant on Jan. 8 after finding several incidences of cockroaches.

The suspension was lifted Jan. 10 after Foster Farms presented a prevention plan to inspectors. The plant restarted operations Jan. 11. . .
