URBANDALE, Iowa — The Iowa Egg Council and Iowa Poultry Association, along with the Cluck’n Coop, were awarded the 2021 People’s Choice Best New Fair Food with their Chicken and Egg Salad on Indian Fry Bread. The winning creation comes on the heels of a Best of Show win in 2019.

“We couldn’t be more excited to receive this recognition and have the opportunity to showcase our poultry and egg industry in a delicious and nutritious way,” said Kevin Stiles, executive director, Iowa Egg Council and Iowa Poultry Association. “The partnership with the Cluck’n Coop has been a great opportunity to demonstrate the versatility of our products in a creative way.”

In addition to Cluck’n Coop recognition, the Iowa Egg Council served nearly 130,000 eggs-on-a-stick in the John Deere Agriculture Building.

“We had hundreds of people stop by the booth expressing that the egg-on-a-stick is their favorite part of the state fair,” Stiles said. “While our numbers were down slightly from previous years, we still had the opportunity for our egg farmers to interact and have meaningful conversations with consumers about the egg and poultry industry.”

The eggs for the Cluck’n Coop and egg-on-a-stick were supplied by Versova and processed by Michael Foods. The remaining eggs that were not used at the state fair were donated to the Food Bank of Iowa on behalf of Iowa egg farmers.

Other egg and poultry industry activities at the fair included a new chicken barn exhibit at Little Hands on the Farm thanks to partners Henning Companies and Vencomatic, laying hens at the Knapp Animal Learning Center and an egg cooking contest and educational presentation at the Elwell Family Food Center.

“The Iowa State Fair is Iowa’s largest annual consumer gathering and we are pleased with this ability to showcase eggs,” said Bruce Dooyema, Iowa Egg Council, board of director’s chairman.
