HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Aviagen has announced the appointment of Derrick Tice as the new president of Aviagen North America, effective immediately. Aviagen is a global leader in poultry genetics, research, and innovation, and Tice brings more than 15 years of experience to help Aviagen continue in its success.

Before earning this new position, Tice held various roles with Aviagen, such as grandparent poultry specialist, operations manager, and most recently, vice president of live production, the company noted in its announcement.

Prior to joining Aviagen, Tice worked for Boehringer Ingelheim as the U.S. poultry strategic account manager. In this role, he was able to expand his commercial expertise and deepen relationships throughout the poultry value chain, Aviagen added.

The previous roles he held with Aviagen and Boehringer gave him experience in operational leadership, quality assurance, and organizational performance, the company said, adding that his experience and proven commitment to service makes him the perfect person to step into this role and move Aviagen North America into its next chapter.

“I am honored to step into this position and grateful for the trust placed in me,” Tice said. “I look forward to continuing our work to deliver high-quality breeding stock, exceptional service, and long-term value for our customers.”

In addition to his professional career, Tice has 20 years of military service under his belt from his time with the Alabama Army National Guard, Aviagen noted. His time with the military helped shape how he leads his team and supports customers.

Tice holds a bachelor of science in agriculture, majoring in poultry science management, from Mississippi State University and is based in Huntsville, Ala., home of Aviagen’s global headquarters, the company added.

“Derrick’s deep industry knowledge, leadership experience, and long-standing dedication to Aviagen make him exceptionally well-suited for this role,” Jan Henriksen, Aviagen CEO, said. “He has earned the trust of customers and colleagues across our industry, and we are confident he will continue to strengthen our operations and client relationships through North America.”
