AI hits backyard flock in Indiana

GAINESVILLE, Ga. — The outbreak of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza continues to expand its reach into the U.S. poultry industry, the latest a backyard mixed poultry flock in Whitley County, Ind.

The Indiana version of the AI virus is H5N8, the first finding of this strain in the Mississippi flyway. Previous H5N8 strains were found only in the Pacific flyway in January and early February.

Samples from the Indiana flock were tested by the Indiana Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory and the Animal & Plant Health Inspection Service's National Veterinary. . .
