EAST LANSING, Mich. — The Michigan State University Extension is offering a new educational webinar this fall called Broiler University. Broiler U is a comprehensive, science-based training program for those who are interested in learning about broiler chicken production, Michigan State University Extension said in its announcement.
The program is designed for beginners and small-scale producers to provide them with the practical and research-grounded instruction to help participants of the program to confidently raise the best chickens possible.
Broiler U is meant to give them everything they need to build a thriving breeder operation.
“This program is designed to meet learners where they are,” Dr. Francine Czerniawski, MSU Extension poultry specialist, said. “Whether someone is raising their first batch of birds or looking to improve their current system, Broiler U provides clear, actionable guidance rooted in science and best practices.”
The program will run sessions every other Wednesday at 7 p.m., from Sept. 2 through Oct. 28, with the sessions hosted on Zoom. Broiler U will cover a wide range of topics in broiler production, including housing, nutrition, marketing, and health management.
Each session will focus on key elements of successful flock management:
- Sept. 2: Housing & Production Fundamentals
- Sept. 16: Nutrition & Feeding Strategies
- Sept. 30: Sourcing Birds & Incubation
- Oct. 14: Health Management & Biosecurity
- Oct. 28: Farm Business Management & Marketing
Program participants who complete the full program will receive a Certificate of Completion along with Broiler U merch as a thank you for their commitment to learning, MSU Extension noted.
