JACKSON, Miss. — To celebrate National Egg Month this May, the Mississippi Egg Marketing Board and Cal-Maine Foods are offering Mississippians the chance to win free eggs for a year in their “Eggs for a Year” giveaway.

To win the grand prize of a year’s supply of eggs through redeemable coupons, residents can enter the contest by signing up in person at the Genuine MS Store in Jackson, Miss., during normal operating hours, the Mississippi Egg Marketing Board said in an announcement.

On Saturday, May 16, the winner will be announced and receive 24 one dozen EGG-LAND’S BEST coupons, redeemable at participating retailers. The announcement will take place at the new Genuine MS Farmers Market at the Rankin County Co-op in Brandon, Miss., Mississippi EMB added.

In addition to the awarding of the winner, the event will include complimentary quiche tastings provided by the Mississippi Egg Marketing Board and Cal-Maine Foods, and educational information about eggs.

“We are excited to celebrate National Egg Month this year through this special giveaway,” Ryn Laster, Mississippi Egg Marketing Board president, said. “We encourage the public to participate for a chance to win a year’s supply of eggs, which will provide one lucky winner with nutritious, protein-rich meals throughout the year.”

Eggs are a great source of high-quality protein and can amplify other foods. In addition to contributing more than 20 functional properties, eggs contain a unique combination of nutrients not found in a single egg alternative, including 13 essential vitamins and minerals, Mississippi EMB noted.

“Eggs play a vital role in Mississippi’s agricultural economy, supporting farmers, creating jobs and contributing to a strong food supply chain,” Andy Gipson, Mississippi agriculture and commerce commissioner, said. “From production to processing and distribution, the egg industry remains an important driver of economic activity in communities across the state.”

National Egg Month has been observed since the 1960s, but it wasn’t until the 1990s that the American Egg Board selected May as the official National Egg Month.
