Trade representative office celebrating 50 years

WASHINGTON — The Office of the United States Trade Representative is marking the 50th anniversary of the creation of USTR in 2012.

U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk,  in an address on the U.S.-Colombia Free Trade Agreement which entered into force on May 15, said, "Simply put, the work we do at USTR — to open markets, level the playing field and keep America competitive — is enormously relevant for hard-working families across the United States."

Until the early 1960s, the Department of State was responsible for conducting U.S. trade and investment diplomacy and administering the president's trade. . .
