Russia joins WTO after 18 years of talks

WASHINGTON — United States Trade Representative Ron Kirkk  has welcomed Russia as the 156th Member of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

In a statement issued Aug. 22 upon Russia's accession to the WTO, Kirk said, “We congratulate Russia on joining the World Trade Organization. Russia’s WTO membership opens the door to increased opportunities for American companies to export and sell products and services in Russia.”

“However, Ambassador Kirk continued, "in order for American manufacturers, workers, service providers, farmers and ranchers to take full advantage of Russia’s WTO membership, Congress must act to terminate Jackson-Vanik and authorize permanent. . .
