NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee Poultry Association honored Don Davis and David Tallent at its recent Annual Meeting. Davis was inducted into the 2025 TPA Hall of Fame, while Tallent received the 2025 TPA Workhorse of the Year award.
Both men have dedicated years of their lives to the poultry industry. Davis’s agricultural journey began with a bachelor’s degree in agricultural education from North Carolina State University in 1980, TPA notes in a release. From there, he became a vocational agriculture teacher at Southwest Randolph High School in Asheboro, N.C.
His interest in poultry was not sparked until he visited a friend working at Perdue at the time, the association said, adding that this visit was the catalyst for his lengthy career. He spent 20 years with Perdue and 15 years with Koch Foods, serving in various major operations roles.
As for Tallent, his poultry roots run deep. From an early age, he was interested in poultry and is now the fifth-generation owner of his family farm, Crosby Springs Farm. Under his leadership, the farm has diversified and grown, housing breeder hen houses in partnership with Hubbard since 2011, TPA noted.
In addition to their professional achievements, Davis and Tallent have been deeply involved in other aspects of the industry. During his career, Davis served as the president of the Piedmont Poultry Association and a board member of the TPA. Tallent is co-chair of the Grower Committee and joined the TPA Board of Directors in 2013 as grower representative.
“The most rewarding part has been the incredible people I’ve had the privilege to work with,” Davis said in a statement regarding his career and the connections he made through the years. “This industry is built on relationships and teamwork, and I’m grateful to have been part of it.”
Tracy Rafferty, TPA executive director, also shared some kind words regarding Tallent’s work and character.
“David represents everything this award stands for,” Rafferty said in an announcement. “His life is a testament to hard work, humility, and heart. Whether he’s working in the field, mentoring the next generation, or leading within our association, David leads by example.”
In their personal lives, both are devoted family men, who enjoy spending time with those closest to them, the association added.
