Salmonella outbreak sickens more people

ATLANTA — Some 107 people in 31 states have now been infected with an outbreak strain of Salmonella Heidelberg found in some ground turkey made by Cargill Inc., according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention..

That's up from the earlier report of 76 cases in 26 states. However, only one death from the outbreak, which began in March, has been reported.

The outbreak resulted in Minneapolis-based Cargill recalling 36 million pounds of ground turkey produced at its Springdale, Ark. plant and suppending production at that prlant. All the recalled turkey is from the Springdale plant. . .
