WILSON, N.C. — The battle between the city of Wilson and Nash County over a proposed chicken plant has cost more than $1.2 million in legal fees and costs associated with environmental issues during the past year.

The fight is not over, as a Sanderson Farms plant remains possible; company officials have delayed the project because of high grain prices and lower product demand.
