MARSHALL, Texas — A federal judge has ordered Pilgrim's Pride to pay $28.5 million to 91 poultry growers in El Dorado, Ark., who had supplied stock to the company.
Pilgrim's idled its El Dorado processing plant in 2009.
According to press reports, the judge found that the decision by Pilgrim's to idle the El Dorado plant was motivated bya desire to manipulate the price of chicken.
Magistrate Judge Charles Everingham IV of the Eastern District of Texas Marshall Division handed down the decision Sept. 30, following a two-year legal battle.
