GREELEY, Colo. — Poultry producer Pilgrim's Pride posted a third-quarter loss, hurt by higher feed costs and lower prices for chicken breasts and wings.
Higher costs and lower prices have hurt other major poultry raisers in recent years. Restaurants, under pressure from tepid consumer spending, cut back on orders. That's driven down prices and hurt chicken sellers' profits. Meanwhile, costs for feeding chickens have grown because of a run-up in commodity prices.
