DESTIN, Fla. — The Joint Poultry Industry Safety & Health Council, comprised of members of the U.S. Poultry & Egg Association, National Chicken Council and National Turkey Federation, recognized 222 chicken and turkey facilities with safety awards during this week’s National Safety Conference for the Poultry Industry.
These facilities were noted for implementing effective and innovative safety programs, outstanding performance, notable injury statistics for the period of 2022 to 2024, as well as a written application that was reviewed by academia and safety experts.
“These awards reflect the significant progress our industry has made in protecting the safety and health of its workers,” Allan Foy, Farbest Foods’ corporate director of safety, and Joint Poultry Industry Safety & Health Council chair, said in an announcement. “I extend my sincere congratulations to all the recognized facilities and the employees whose dedication made this achievement possible.”
Among this year’s winners:
- 49 were presented with the Award of Distinction, which is the highest level of recognition. These sites have noted safety excellence and health training, employee involvement, education, as well as injury and illness rates that are at least 75 percent below the Bureau of Labor Statistics average.
- 81 locations were given the Award of Honor, which also are 75 percent and 50 percent less than the BLS injury and illness average, and also meet the same core safety principles.
- And 92 sites were honored with the Award of Merit. This award is given to locations that are between 50 percent less, or equal to, the BLS average.
Approximately 95 percent of U.S. poultry production is represented by the safety council’s three collective organizations.
