FSIS restates position on imports of Chinese poultry

WASHINGTON — Poultry slaughtered in China is not allowed to be exported to the U.S., USDA's Food Safety & Inspection Service has stated.

This statement was issued Nov. 10 in response to views expressed earlier in the day by Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) that the U.S. was about to approve  imports of chicken raised and slaughtered in China.

"USDA has not found China's poultry slaughter system to be equivalent and therefore poultry slaughtered in China is not allowed to be exported to the United States. The U.S. food supply is among the safest in. . .
