Egg producers seek definition of cage-free

ATLANTA — Exactly what constitutes a cage-free environment is an issue currently confronting the United Egg Producers.

Questions arise on issues, among others, such as whether cage-free would include aviary housing, is access to outdoors required and should porches be part of housings.

UEP hopes to take suggestions and recommendations from fall area meetings to its Annual Meeting & Executive Conference in October to spell out a definitive statement on what cage-free activity means.
