LUCERNE VALLEY, Ca — Country Eggs, LLC recently announced the recall of their large brown cage free sunshine yolks for potential Salmonella contamination.
According to an announcement on the Food and Drug Administration website, the eggs were distributed in California and Nevada and delivered to grocery stores and food service distributors between June 16 and July 9.
The recalled eggs were sold under the brands Nagatoshi Produce, Misuho, Nijiya Markets, and Country Eggs, all of which had sell by dates from July 1, 2025, to Sept. 18, 2025.
Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms usually start 6 hours to 6 days after swallowing the bacteria, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Symptoms include fever, nausea, and abdominal pain.
As of Aug. 28, a total of 95 people from 14 states had been infected with this outbreak strain of Salmonella, with California having the highest number of infected people, according to the CDC and FDA. However, no deaths have been reported.
Country Eggs has stopped all production of the contaminated product while the FDA conducts their investigation.
“Ensuring the safety and quality of the eggs we supply to our customers is our responsibility and our focus each day,” the company said in a statement. “We know this is concerning and supporting you through this process is our priority. We are committed to addressing this matter fully and to implementing all necessary corrective actions to ensure this does not happen again.”
The company is advising that consumers return or dispose of any recalled products they may have purchased.
