Butterball to close Colorado facility

GARNER, N.C. — Butterball LLC will close its Longmont, Colo., facility, effective Dec. 31.

Butterball, which is the largest producer of turkey products in the U.S., cited the reason for the closure as being the increased grain and other costs and the need to streamline operations. The plant, which has been owned by Butterball since 2006, employs about 350 persons.

During the past five years, Butterball said the company's increase in costs related to higher feed costs has averaged nearly $65 million per year, or $325 million total for the five year period.
