Chicken plants seek buyer

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A task force of state and federal officials is scrambling to find a buyer for chicken processor Townsends' facilities in Siler City and Mocksville, N.C., which are set to close early next month if no new owner is found.

"We're still working with multiple prospective buyers, both domestic and internationally," said Bob Etheridge, the former U.S. congressman who is now director of the N.C. Office of Economic Recovery and Investment. "It seems like each day one pops up."
