MODESTO, Calif. — Calaveras County sheriff's deputies recently arrested three men and cited 10 others for animal cruelty at an alleged cockfighting ring held in a large shop building in Burson, Calif.
As deputies walked toward the shop, 35 to 45 people ran toward the rear exit. Deputies detained several of them.
With help from Calaveras County Animal Services, deputies located cock fighting paraphernalia, including fighting cages, gaffs, gaff holders, scissors, weights, stopwatches, receipt books and clubs.
They found a bag containing 4.5 grams of marijuana, and three black garbage bags that held 18 deceased. . .
