Ag groups support change in truck weight limit

WASHINGTON — Agricultural groups, including poultry organizations, have endorsed a transportation bill that would permit states to increase truck-weight limits to 97,000 pounds with inclusion of a sixth axle on trucks.

The bill — the Safe and Efficient Transportation Act (H.R. 612) — was introduced in the 113th Congress by Reps. Reid Ribble (R-Wis.) and Mike Michaud (D-Maine).

In a letter to the two Congressmen, the agricultural coalition said, "As members of the agriculture industry, we are hindered by antiquated transportation rules and regulations that are inconsistent and impede the flow of commerce for agri-businesses. Inconsistencies promote. . .
